Last night of Cubs for 2009

WHEN: 10th December 2009

TIME: 6:30pm – Note the earlier start time, do not think that you have to be there then, come when you can, go when you have to. (We are already in the silly season so we are trying to making your timing a little easier *chuckle*)

WHAT: We will be having the usual end of year BBQ, all the family are invited to a casual evening to chat over the activities that we have participated in during this year and to have a quick peak at the plans for next year. Next year will be a Cuboree year so a lot of activities will be based around getting all of you Cubs ready for the Cuboree experience!
(Akela will also be presenting some badges.)

FOOD!: We will be providing sausages, bread and cordial for the Cubs and siblings (Please RSVP to RAMA by Wednesday so he knows who will be coming).
There will be plenty of space on the BBQ if you wish to bring some other meat, or vegetable patties, or witchetty grubs or … I’ve been told to stop there … or custard!!

Scouts in Space
Of the 294 men and women selected to be astronauts since 1959 to 2005, more than 180 have been Scouts.

Baden-Powell wrote in the first volume of his autobiography about those “clear frosty nights under the dark, overhead vault with its stars big and brilliant, twinkling humorously and watching you”. He could not have imagined that just 35 years later we would be up amongst them, exploring outer space.

Astonishingly, 11 of the 12 men to have walked on the moon were Scouts. Even more remarkably perhaps, two thirds of all the astronauts ever to have gone into space were involved in Scouting. When NASA began its astronaut selection process, they were looking for people who were not only fit and technically proficient, but who had an even temperament and above all, a thirst for adventure. It was no coincidence that the majority of those who were handed “tickets to the moon” were former Scouts. …

HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP – WE NEED YOU

WE NEED AT LEAST 5 MORE PARENT HELPERS TO HELP SUPERVISE AT THE BLUE LIGHT DISCO, 4TH DECEMBER, DIAMOND CREEK

This is a 1st Eltham group fundraiser and all money raised goes directly to our group. This helps fund purchases for all sections, Joey’s, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers. As one of the biggest groups in the state we can not survive solely on fee collection and must do some additional fundraising to support our expenses, if families from all sections do not support the group the group will not be able to support our families by keeping our fees to a minimum.

We still desperately need more adult helpers for the Blue light disco on the 4th December, Diamond Creek. There has been a notice up in the hall for about 1 month already and we are still short of helpers.

So far we have 11 helpers confirmed (we need at least 15, would also be good to have a couple of extras in case of last minute cancellations) of this 15, 8 are scout families, 2 are from Thursday night cubs and 1 leader.

We catch a train to the city then go to one or more of the following: Fed square/Birrarung Mar/Southbank/Dockside. Then catch the train home again for a sleep over at the Scout Hall!

FRI 5:30pm – Drop sleep over gear at the 1st Eltham Scout Hall
FRI 5:45pm – Move to station
FRI 6.11pm – Catch train to Melbourne
… out and about …
… return to hall to sleep …
SAT 9:00 to 10:00am – Pickup from the 1st Eltham Scout Hall after breakfast

2009 NILLUMBIK DISTRICT All Leaders Meeting on November 26th
At this important meeting the 2010 District and sectional calendar will be set. Night will commence at 8.00pm Our guest on the night will be Rosemary Aitken from Nillumbik Council Youth Services. Rosemary will give us an overview of youth issues we may encounter “Children with challenges” and services council can provide. Light refreshments will be served

This is a uniformed event.
