FIRST ELTHAM SCOUTS, MAY 2008 NEWSLETTER

FIRST ELTHAM SCOUTS

MAY 2008 NEWSLETTER

URGENT NEW SCOUT LEADERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS
This Scout Group urgently needs new Committee members. Due to retirements we must have a new President, Treasurer and supporting members. Also, I will be retiring as Group Leader on 30 June 2008 and a replacement must be found. The Group cannot function without a Group Leader to register scouts, set and collect fees, and pay insurances. New Committee members and a Group Leader must step forward and take up these roles or the Group cannot continue. The new Group Leader will need the support of an active Committee to meet the administrative workload of this large Scout Group.
We have adequate leaders for all the sections in the Group, Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. The cost of Leader registration, uniform and training is met by the Group and paid out of fees and fund-raising, thus we can have too many. Committee members are not warranted Leaders and do not incur registration fees. This is a great Scout Group blessed with some great people as Leaders who do a great job with our youth. You can support them and be involved by joining our Committee. This has to happen or we cannot continue.
Please call me (David Rendell) to discuss how you can help.

CUBOREE
The great adventure is over and all the Cubs had a great time, with some added excitement from the weather. Thanks to all our Leaders who contributed their time and worked very hard looking after our Cubs and making the Cuboree such a success. It was a great effort by them all.

HALL EXTENSION
The Hall extension is now substantially completed. This extension comes after many years of planning and negotiation, and in particular, the dedication and perseverance of Greg Purdy, our Group Treasurer. Thanks to Greg we now have plenty of space for storage of our equipment and to provide for the needs of the various Scout sections. We can now move on to the next phase of fitting out the extension. If there are any parents with graphic arts capabilities we are keen to draw up some plans. Please let us know if you can help.

GROUP FEES 2008-09 YEAR
Invoices for the 2008-09 year will be issued shortly with payment due before June 30. Any youth member whose fee is not paid will not be registered and cannot continue in scouting. For insurance purposes this protects both the scout and the Leaders. Please pay fees by the due date so that our account from Branch, which will be in the order of $18,000, can be paid on time. Any inquiries re the fees contact the Group Leader (David Rendell) or the Group Treasurer (Greg Purdy).

RAFFLE 2008
Scout Raffle tickets are available from the Section Leaders. Please take a book and help to raise money for our Group.

AGM AND HALL OPENING
An AGM and opening ceremony for the hall extension will be held in late May. The new Committee should take its place at that time.

2008-03 Hall Redevelopment

The renovations to our Scout Hall commenced in mid January. Prior to this all of the equipment was moved out of the Cub and Scout dens and stored on the stage and at the kitchen end of the hall; this means that the hall is very crowded. Completion of the building works is scheduled for April 2, until that time we plan to be outside the hall for as much of our program as possible 😉
