As discussed at Cubs, the Pack Council has been postponed a week and will now be held on the 12th November 2010.

ABOUT PACK COUNCILS
Pack Councils are regular meetings held between the Cub Scout Leader (or ACSL) and their Sixers and/or Seconds.

Sixers, Seconders and invited 10 year old Cubs.

This week 2010-NOV-04 Gellibrand Cup

The horses are on the track …

Welcome to the annual running of the Gellibrand Derby, famous for the turn of speed shown by some of the competitors. This year due a very wet track we will not be having our famous snail race, but we will continue in the Spring Carnival spirit. Be prepared for horse racing, fashions on the field – although maybe not in the manner that you might expect 🙂

LEVEL 1 (Green) – CYCLIST
Green – Cyclist [PDF]

1. Demonstrate how to clean a bicycle.

2. Name the different parts of a bicycle and explain their use.

3. Explain what safety equipment a rider and bicycle must have.

4. Demonstrate what hand signals a rider must use during a bicycle ride.

5. Demonstrate how to mount and dismount properly.

6. Explain the most important road rules that apply to cyclists.

7. Demonstrate how to ride a bicycle and, under supervision, go for a ride of at least one kilometre demonstrating proper hand signals and the ability to ride safely.

LEVEL 2 (Red) – CYCLIST
Red – Cyclist [PDF]

1. Own or have regular use of a bicycle of the proper size.

2. Demonstrate how to clean and oil your bicycle, pump up the tyres, repair a puncture, replace a brake block and adjust the brakes.

3. Explain and demonstrate the correct use of safety equipment a rider and bicycle must have.

4. State what checks you would carry out before going on a bicycle ride.

5. Demonstrate how to mount and dismount properly.

6. List or state the road rules as they apply to cyclists.

7. Under supervision, go on a ride for at least five kilometres, demonstrating proper hand signals and the ability to ride safely.

8. Keep a log of bicycle rides that you have been on over a period of three months.

9. Explain what different types of bicycles are available and under what conditions they are ridden.

[NOTICE] SAFETY AWARENESS BIKE RIDE October 24th, 2010

SAFETY AWARENESS BIKE RIDE :: SUNDAY 24th October 2010

Supported by Victoria Police: They will be on hand to provide safety tips, information and support at intersection. A great opportunity for a group bike ride and families are most welcome.

START:
9.30am Cubs, Scouts etc at 1st Diamond Creek Scout Hall
10.00am Joey Scouts at 1st Eltham Scout Hall

FINISH:
1.00pm at Lower Eltham Park

  • Bring your bike in a roadworthy condition – remember to make sure your tyres are pumped up
  • BRING YOUR HELMET!!! (No Helmet No Ride)
  • Bring a drink
  • Wear your uniform & scarf.
  • Permission forms essential to be handed to your Cub Leader.

A BBQ will be provided
cost: $3.50 for a can of drink and a sausage in bread or there is no cost if you do not want to participate in the BBQ.
We will need to know the number for the BBQ by 21-Oct-2010 to send through to the organisers for catering numbers.

Proudly supported by Victoria Police and Nillumbik District Scouts.
1st Diamond Creek Scout Group are the coordinators of the event, route all queries via your Aklea.
This event is set up for the Nillumbik District but other districts are welcome to attend. The police have organised motorcycle police for assistance with road crossings and they have a number of prizes to give away on the day.
